App Review: Headspace

Call me Lore's Review on the Headspace App

Hello everyone!

Today, we live in such a busy world. I don’t know about you, but as soon as I open my eyes in the morning, I have a million things on my mind and before I go to bed at night, I still have a million things on my mind. In this crazy life, we are connected 99% percent of the time which makes it hard to dedicate time for yourself, especially time to just enjoy yourself and reflect, let alone meditate.

For years, I’ve been hearing about the wonders of meditation. So, I decided to try Headspace, a meditation app that everyone has been talking about! My only other experience with meditation had been listening to guided meditation while getting acupuncture, but that was more like a siesta than a meditation (haha).

Why I Decided to Try It

I decided to try the Headspace app because my life is hectic! I feel like I don’t even know where my days go. I am a very busy mom and an entrepreneur, and don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my life I would not change anything. However, I do sometimes feel like I need 10 minutes for myself.

One day, I stumbled upon an article about the benefits of mediation and I decided to give it a try. I was super skeptical at first as I have the attention span of a squirrel, but I decided it was time to try it out.

What Are the Benefits of Meditation?

There are many benefits of meditation, but these are some of the ones that I found interesting!

  • Reduced stress levels
  • Better focus (I desperately need to work on this haha)
  • Improved sleep
  • Improved attention span
  • Improved brain function

How Does the Headspace App Work?

The app is free to download, and it comes with something called ‘Take 10,’ which is a 10 day program that teaches you the basics of meditation. For me, this was very important because, as I mentioned before, I have a really tough time with clearing my mind.

Once you are done with this, you have the option to subscribe to access the rest of the meditation content. There are three subscription options that you can review here. The monthly subscription is $12.95. Once you subscribe, you get access to hours and hours of meditation content. There are guided and not guided exercises, and they range in time from as little as 2 minutes to one hour. Meditations are organized by series of interest like health, or you can do singles.

How I Use It

Meditation is a new thing to me, so I try to sit at a quiet place like my kitchen haha (before Diego wakes up) so I can focus on it. I am not gonna lie, it is still very hard for me to sit still for 10 minutes with my eyes closed, but it’s worth it. Sometimes if my morning started out really crazy, I will do it at night. At night, the house is quiet and it’s easy to do BUT I am tired from the day so 99% of times, I fall asleep before the meditation is over.

In the beginning, it was very hard to me to get into it because I felt weird just sitting there, but remember, its takes 30 days to form a habit so if you stick with it, I think you will like it as much as I do now!

Why I Love It

I love the Headspace app, because it’s meditation made easy! It is a guided process and I love that you can do it however and whenever you want to (please don’t do it in the car while driving, haha). However, I mostly love it because I see results. I have been using it for the past month or so (with some exceptions because of all my recent travels), and I feel like it makes my days better and I feel more calm, in control, and positive.

My biggest takeaway is that it’s not all about ignoring the feelings or thoughts that go through my mind, but rather, learning how to deal with them, become aware of them, and learn what they mean.

I hope you guys enjoyed the post and let me know if you have tried the Headspace app and what your experience has been like!
