Microneedling: What Are the Benefits?

As you guys probably know by now, I have a little bit of an obsession with skin, beauty treatments, and products. Now with social media and the internet, it’s so easy to stumble upon new products or services! One that I’ve been hearing and reading a lot about recently is Microneedling! So, when I found out that Melissa from Melt did the procedure, I decided to give it a try.

P.S. – be sure to read until the end to watch me get the procedure done!

Let’s dive in!

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy. As you can see in the video below, it uses really thin needles to create a lot of tiny wounds on the top layer of your skin. It stimulates collagen and elastin, which results in glowing skin and less visible scars and wrinkles. It especially helps to reduce fine lines, crow’s feet, and lines on the forehead. The procedure is commonly used on people that have old acne scars, but Melissa says it’s not recommended for people that have active acne.

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

  • Reduce visibility of scars
  • Reduce pore size
  • Improve skin tone and texture
  • Reduce visibility of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Slow down the aging process
  • Help skin products penetrate and be more effective

How Fast Can You See Results?

Mel explained to me that even though you will be able to see results almost immediately after your first treatment, the results are cumulative. She recommends three treatments every four weeks to get started, and then maybe once a year to maintain.

At Home Derma-Rollers vs. Professional Grade Microneedling Pens

You’ve probably seen that you can buy derma-rollers in order to microblade yourself at home, but from what Mel explained, these rollers can be effective but not nearly as effective as professional grade microneedling pens.

The structure and the length of the needles is different, which varies the results you’ll have. However, she recommends using derma-rollers on the rest of our body, as they can be very effective to treat stretch marks and also any body scars. If you want to experience the full results, you have to see a professional!

My Overall Thoughts

I love my results! And just like Mel said, it did not hurt at all. She used a numbing cream on my face before the procedure, so when she actually did it, I felt no pain at all. The procedure took around an hour, and there’s no down time. As you can see in the video, my face looks red right after we got done, but the redness significantly went down by that night and the next day, it was very minor and almost unnoticeable.

The aftercare is simple! You can’t wear makeup or sunscreen for 24 hours following the procedure. I did have a little bit of peeling for two days, but then my skin was in perfect condition!

In the end, I would definitely do microneedling again, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy treatment to improve their skin. So far, I have just received one treatment, but I will be going back for my second one soon! I can’t wait to see how my skin looks after this one!
